When I started making bags, I wasn’t just thinking about how they’d look. I was thinking about the person at the end of the process, the one wearing the bag. About all the little moments that fill up a day, from the early mornings to the airport rushes to the quiet commutes.
I kept wondering:
Where would you put your keys when you’re juggling groceries and trying to open the trunk of your car?
Where would you need to safely store your rings and bracelets before hitting a quick workout?
Would you want your water bottle to stay upright on a bus ride?
Would you need one hand free for a coffee, a child, or a last-minute phone call?
Every pocket, every strap, every choice in a Miles of Melodies bag came from questions like these. Real needs, real days, from my real life. I wanted to create something that fits into your life without asking you to work harder or spend more money for it.
Why Intention Matters
Designing with intention means moving slowly. It means thinking about what actually makes life easier, not just what looks good in a photo or what would make a quick buck.
It’s small things:
- Pockets that are deep enough so things don’t fall out, but are also easily accessible.
- Straps that stay comfortable and don’t slip off every 5 seconds.
- Materials that can handle being thrown in the backseat or dropped on the floor or thrown in the wash (because let’s be real, I’m not following a 18 step handwash routine).
- Fabric that doesn’t feel too bulky (personally, it drives me up a wall when a bag is already heavy & digging into my shoulders before I even put anything in it).
None of it is flashy. None of it screams for attention. It’s design that quietly does its job so you can get on with living.
Listening First
Some of the best ideas I’ve had didn’t come from sitting at a sketchbook. They came from listening to the people carrying the bags, and testing out my own creations to find areas of improvement.
What do people’s mornings really look like?
Where do I get stuck or frustrated with the bags I’ve had before?
What do you carry that I’m tired of digging around for?
Real life is messy and different for everyone. As I prioritize slow fashion, my products should reflect that. It should work with the rhythms of people’s day, not fight against them.
When we build something together, it’s less about customizing a product and more about creating a small piece of your world that feels like it truly belongs to you.
A Bag That Lives With You
Miles of Melodies bags aren’t designed to sit on a shelf. They’re meant to be grabbed, packed, dropped, hugged, and leaned on. They’re for long days and sudden trips and all the unexpected things life throws at you.
They’re not perfect. But they’re made with a lot of care, a lot of listening, and a lot of hope that they’ll make your days just a little bit easier.
