When I sit down at my sewing machine, I’m not just making a bag. I’m choosing to slow down. To be thoughtful. To create something that serves a purpose.
That’s what slow fashion means to me.
In a world that often feels rushed and disposable to me, I wanted to make something different with Miles of Melodies. I wanted to make bags and accessories that are meant to stay. To be carried, loved, mended, and carried again. At Miles of Melodies, every piece I design and make is stitched with care and intention and not pushed through a factory line as the next “trendy” thing. It’s about quality over quantity. Purpose over microtrends.
I source most of my fabrics secondhand or from shops local to me, not just because it’s more sustainable (although that matters a lot to me) but because I want to feel and test every piece of fabric I buy. I want to be able to run my fingers over them, to be able to envision someone carrying them, to put them through rigor before they even make it back home. I pre-wash every fabric in my home laundry, measure, cut, & sew every piece by hand, and test each design in my real life through daycare runs, grocery hauls, and early-morning work commutes. If it doesn’t hold up for me, it won’t hold up for you, and I will not put them up on my site.
Slow fashion also means respecting the pace of the process. I don’t rush through orders or overextend myself to meet demand or some arbitrary “record profits” goals . That’s not the kind of brand I want to run. I believe in both mindful making and mindful consumption. That’s why some of my bags are one-of-a-kind, and why others can be customized to fit your life just right. What I make has to make sense to me first and foremost.
At its core, Miles of Melodies is about connection. Between me and you. Between functionality and beauty. Between old stories and new ones. When you carry one of my bags, I hope you are able to feel the time, care, and intention I put behind every cut and stitch.
Thanks for being part of this slow and steady journey with me.
