How I Incorporate Transparency In My Business

In the last two months, I’ve learned that there’s no shortage of noise in the world of small business. I’ve seen a lot of folks on my Tiktok fyp talk about how to “scale faster,” “maximize profit,” or “keep customers in the dark” so you can gain followers for being mysterious. But that’s never been what Miles of Melodies is about. I didn’t start this shop to climb some algorithm. I started it to build something real, with intention, with heart, and with honesty.

You might’ve noticed that every product in the shop comes with a little description next to “Labor of Love.” That’s not just some cutesy branding. It’s my way of showing you the hours, hands, and thought that go into each piece. If I spent 4 hours hand-cutting, sewing, and finishing a garment, you’ll know it. If I upcycled a vintage fabrics and stitched it into something useful for you, I’ll tell you that too.

Why? Because the truth matters.

I want you to understand the value of what you’re holding, not just the cost, but the care. In a world where most of what we buy is churned out of factories at lightning speed, where trends sprout up as fast as they disappear, it’s easy to forget that someone, somewhere, is doing the work. I’m that someone here. And I believe the time, labor, and love that go into each piece should never be hidden behind a price tag or a gimmicky storefront.

But transparency isn’t just about numbers, it’s about people. As a small business, I’m not here to chase faceless transactions. I’m wanting to build a community. My customers aren’t random buyers; they’re individuals with their own stories, needs, and lifestyles.

I want Miles of Melodies to feel like a space where you’re seen, where your values matter, and where your purchases reflect something more than just aesthetics. When you choose to support this shop, it’s a relationship, which I don’t take lightly. I’d rather charge a fair price that reflects the real labor behind my work, and let you decide if that’s something you want to support.

I don’t want to be like other businesses. I want to be better. In my greater personal effort to a slower living, I’m aiming my business to be slower, more thoughtful, and rooted in values that don’t compromise.

So when you shop with Low & Slow, you’re not just buying a thing. You’re saying yes to a different kind of business: one that respects your trust, honors the labor, and keeps it out in the open.

Thanks for being here and for believing in this way of doing things.
