Get Over Yourself

“Get over yourself.”

“Thinking other people care that much is egocentric.”

Those two comments on Tiktok on a random doomscroll completely changed my perspective.

I’ve been an overthinker for as long as I can remember. And as I get older, I can see how it’s holding me back from opportunities to be free, spontaneous, and honest about what I want without worrying about how it looks to other people. I want to change that.

I want to stop living in my head and start living my life. To put myself out there without fearing being “cringey” or being utterly terrified of failing publicly.

But then again, just talking about it and not doing anything is kinda the very thing I’m trying to avoid. So, how are we going to change this?

Well for starters, this site. My blog. My creative outlet. From the site colors to navigation to the layout, I had such a great time building it to reflect who I am. And of course, learning so much along the way about website design!

I’m going to start posting more, from recipes to sewing projects, maybe even a little bit of who I am. I’ve been afraid to show myself online for… I don’t even know. Ridicule? Criticism? The idea that someone might be laughing at me behind my back?

But like those commenters said, thinking that anyone cares that much about me is lowkey self-centered. So I’m choosing to create more and just post. Post without second-guessing the captions or overthinking the pictures.

What else? Posting on socials more. I’m actually quite comfortable with where I’ve grown my MilesofMelodies tiktok account. It’s been such a rewarding experience joining a genuinely supportive community and getting encouragement as a beginner. That’s definitely helped build my confidence. Each video makes me a little more comfortable, whether it’s talking to the camera or brainstorming post ideas. Practicing really does make it easier:)

And speaking of socials, I’ve decided to revive my main Instagram account too. A while back, I did a full cleanse: downsizing it to people I know well, removing my highlights, and finally, just deactivating it. After a much needed break, I think I’m ready to get back on there again. This time, though, my focus will be on fun and experimentation.

Trying new things with photography, fashion, and little creative shoots; not chasing perfection, just posting for the heck of it.

Anyway, this is me holding myself accountable. Less overthinking and more doing.
If you see me posting something random or totally out of pocket… just know I’m frothing at the mouth trying not to delete it.

Honestly not sure yet. I’m still developing my style and getting into fashion itself.
